Ghajini Review:Warning Contains Spoilers
by piscianemperor
As remakes go,this is surely one of the better ones. The plot summary is something like this…Kalpana(Asin) is a struggling model, who lives in a rented house somewhere in Mumbai.Sanjay Singhania(Amir Khan) is the chairman/owner of a million dollar company,Air Voice. The company wants to put up a hoarding from Kalpana’s flat,so Sanjay sends some executives to take Asin’s permission. When these execs reach the studio, due to some misunderstanding,Kalpana’s boss thinks that Sanjay has sent these guys to ask her if she loves him(this can happen only in India !).
Now Kalpana enjoys this new found attention, and sticks to this crap;even gives an interview to a newspaper about how Sanjay wooed her.Sanjay is intrigued by this, and comes to meet Kalpana himself, who thinks that he has come for an ad-film audition(talk about comedy of errors-bollywood ishtyle).Sanjay too maintains this facade, and soon they are in love(fuck ! i’m beginning to sound very filmy…very self-conscious too..first post!).
Sanjay meanwhile has to go to London on a business trip.He hasn’t told her of his reality yet.Kalpana has an ad-film shooting in Goa,however in the train, she comes across a hapless girl who is caught up in a flesh trade racket. So Kalpana being the heroine, busts the racket, which has some powerful people behind it…enter Ghajini Dharmatma, the king-pin.Now this guys confronts Kalpana, who must be killed,as she’s seen his face.He sends some goons to knock her off,but Sanjay turns up at the flat at the same time. The goons kill Kalpana, and Ghajini himself bashes Sanjay with a heavy rod on the head(any normal person would have died!).Before dying,Kalpana whisper’s the name ‘Ghajini’ into Sanjay’s ears, which somehow gets imprinted on his mind.

Amir:Rippling muscles !
Sanjay suffers from concussion, which causes anterograde amnesia(short term memory loss) as a result of which he can’t remember anything beyond 15 minutes, except stuff like language. So he writes up everything he wants to remember all over his body and takes photos of people or places .With the help of Sunita(Jiah Khan),Sanjay tracks down Ghajini, and goes on a killing spree.
So lemme summarise…the movie is a one time watch. The romance is honest, the like of which only Amir Khan can manage(hear hear Shah Rukh….).The action sequences remind you of Tamil flicks,à la Rajinikanth, but they are digestable. On the whole,a good movie.I give it 7/10.
